Stooges: Iguana De Banda Etiqueta Negra De Lugo

Recent Stooges boot on vinyl only that contains mostly uncirculated material from the Raw Power sessions. Insound has it on sale for $12.99. Thought there might be one or two (most likely just one) of you who might be interested.

There's actually "uncirculated" Stooges material laying around?!

Shockingly enough, yes. That's why this is kind of a big deal to Stooge dorks. They recorded a lot with James. Mostly demos and practice tapes, but there is even more that still hasn't seen the light of day.

I'd probably buy this if I seen it. Don't know if I'd buy it through the mail though.

You're in the UK, right? It's a European release, so you're more likely to come across it than American members.

In Ireland, probably means it's more likely to show up in Madagascar than here. Haha!! But you never know.

School me a bit: when you say "Ireland" is that the Republic of Ireland (not a part of the UK, apparently) or Northern Ireland? Just curious. I'm assuming the Republic, but as a typical American, I'm pretty ignorant of geography (including the middle part of the US). I would like to know better, though.

I'm in Dublin,so the Republic of Ireland,Northern Ireland technically would be part of the UK,but on my last few visits there (Belfast)it was worse than ever for records and had pretty much no record shops for a short while. I believe it's improved a little of late with two shops opening in the last few years, although I heard one has since closed.

Ireland (where Dublin is): not part of UK
Northern Ireland (where Belfast is): part of UK

Gary already covered that. Your post doesn't clarify anything, really, unless you're claiming that people who live in Northern Ireland NEVER say they live "in Ireland".

Hardly (my understanding is that it's quite the opposite but it depends on who you talk to, of course). I will let Gary expand upon that, though, if he so chooses.

There's one on the Stooges forum, if you're a member. I couldn't get it to work for me. If you aren't a member, PM me and I'll send the direct link.

The first two tracks are alt mixes. The rest are Raw Power outtakes. The drums and bass are there, proving once again that Iggy is responsible, intentionally or not, for their absence on the original LP. He's definitely responsible for leaving them off his remix. He had the multitracks to work with, unlike Bowie, to whom Iggy brought some kind of partial mixdown.

So, seriously, what did y'all think of these musicians (unlikely fans of Stooges) doing this song :?: I am very curious.

That sucks major donkey dick. The only band that ever effectively covered Das Stooches was the Birthday Party. The Pistols and Damned did passable Stooges covers, but I'd still rather hear the originals.

I'd still rather here the original, but this is a very good cover, too. I can't find the studio version, but this might be better (starts at 1:22). Birdman's originals from this time period are way better, though.

This band always reminds me that I once almost ended up living with a model from Hagerstown, MD (where they were from) and her (also model) boyfriend.

That said, did you see who the surviving Stooges had play guitar on TV Eye on the tribute to Ron Asheton DVD?

Ha ha! As you'd expect, Rollins does the intro/warm-up, then it's a Stooges set w/ Iggy, Williamson, Scott Asheton and Watt. Deniz Tek plays on a few. There's additional interviews and shit. Live stuff usually bores me to death, but it held my attention. For the most part. I just got it on rental for something to watch. Better than I thought.

Yep. Deniz Tek does talk about a bit in the podcast I heard a few months ago. I can't link to it since it's blocked at my work, but I will try to remember to do that tonight. And yes, his connection to the Ann Arbor scene is deep to the point where he bought Sonic Smith's guitar (I think before he left for Australia) and still uses it.
