Totally. I'm surprised it hasn't happened already.

This may be my most daghousey post/thread ever.
Now fuck off.

The UK version is the standard, I'd say. It came out first and the track listing wasn't fucked up with a John Lennon cover.

Top 10 for sure.
Ed Kuepper and Greg Sage loom bigger for me

That's the track listing I like the most because I first heard it on cassette that way when I was 18. And their cover of "Gimme Some Truth" absolutely rules. Sorry, but it's a better tune than something like "Listen" (one of the ones they left off the US version).

This is the wrongest you've ever been, and that's saying something. Because you fucked up when you were 18 everyone else should too? That's solid reasoning. I bought the right one when I was 10 or 11, so if we're going by precedent, my history trumps your history. Let's focus on correcting our mistakes, not perpetuating them. Otherwise, we might as well all sign up for the Conservative Punk newsletter.

You say this like it's a bad thing.

john stabb wrote:A Generation X Reunion will never happen with original guitarist/songwriter Bob Derwood Andrews after Billy & Tony cheated him silly in never giving him any songwriting cred or royalties for his writing "Dancing with myself". And have you seen the dude who wears a rubber Billy Idol mask lately who's doing press for his book lately That cat ain't Billy Idol. I bet there will be no chapter in the book about how afraid Billy & others were of The English Beat (+ their crew) when they gigged with them early on. The wussies were so scared that they left all their gear onstage & ran out of the club leaving English Beat some new equipment.

I liked it a lot - they've got really catchy songs and a great sound (I'm a sucker for that chugga-chugga crunch). But give me some historical perspective, please. These guys were considered a joke, right? I mean, it totally smacks of opportunistic 'poseur' punk. I can only assume that if you were a fan of the Clash, Pistols, Damned, etc. in 1978 that you laughed at Billy Idol and his mates. Am I right?

What jaybird said, but also, they had some cred, since Billy had been in Chelsea and Tony was in London SS. Billy was also part of the Bromley Contingent, so he had been part of the scene from very early on.
john stabb wrote:scanny, you've really missed out on an amazing group from the UK punk era But never too late to discover greatness. I've always dug them but was originally disappointed by the follow up to S/T brilliance in Valley of the Dolls. His initial solo-attempt as Bill Jett (that Joan growl/howl he seriously copped) doing "Mony Mony" was pretty embarrassing. Took me some time to really dig the big solo record (as much as it was catchy) that his MTV pop-star songs like "Dancing" & "Eyes without a Face" were lame. That "Rebel Yell" rock-crap is still crap to this fan. When I found out about Billy & Tony burning Derwood (and who doesn't love the Empire stuff he did after splitting Generation X ) so badly. Screw that assclown & his "I'M MR. PUNKROCK, AGAIN". In the words of Paul Cook (when I asked him what he thought of The Damned) "Think he's a facking joke!"
