How do you find time to listen to all this stuff when you're on the road so much?

JGJR wrote:Another thing re: Scott. He took a LONG time for me to really get into and my first exposure was the Boy Child compilation at some point in the early '00s.
And the first song on Scott 4 is "The Old Man's Back Again," my favorite by him and one I have sort of a personal connection to (long story that involves my dad being in Prague in 1968), so that helps as well.
scannest wrote:I know many people who I typically agree with who love Scott Walker. And I like (some) orchestral pop music. But I think his lyrics are terribly affected and his voice is the definition of lugubrious.
The Lewis is okay. I give her credit for making what sounds like a big budget pop record that doesn't try too hard to sound contemporary (there are actual drums on most of the songs!) But the ballads all sound the same.

scannest wrote:Velvet Crush covered "Duchess" on Soft Sounds (2003). And the first song on Scott 4 is "The Seventh Seal", which seems to just reiterate the plot of the Bergman movie.

Speaking of affected and lugubrious, I'm not a huge Bowie fan either. When I think about the Bowie songs I like, it always come down to who he was in love with at the time - VU/Lou Reed, Stooges, etc. And most of them involve Mick Ronson.

Low is my favorite, especially side 2.

Seriously? I love side 1. Side 2 isn’t bad or anything, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the Krautrock bands he was inspired by.

Low is my favorite Bowie album through and through as a continuous piece of music, even though it doesn't have any of my favorite Bowie songs.
Its quite odd that happened. Favorite album. But contains ZERO fave songs. And though I beg to differ with Hunter's questionable taste in most things in music, he does get Krautrock right. He should thank me. I discovered it.

Word though "Be My Wife" is one of my favorite Bowie songs for sure. You have to take side 2 as a continuous piece of music.

No clue. Does it sound like Teenage Fanclub? Cuz these guys sound a LOT like Teenage Fanclub.
It's also a perfectly generic power-pop name, like a cross between SUPERCHUNK and VELVET CRUSH. In fact, I'm starting to wonder why I never started a band called SUPERCRUSH.

Lewdd - do you have a portable Digital Audio Player that plays FLAC files? I'm anticipating the day my iPod finally dies (almost 7 years old now) and am looking for recommends.
