How do you find time to listen to all this stuff when you're on the road so much?

Your loss, but I get that Scott is not for everyone (there's plenty of stuff I don't get or am not quite as enamored of as many others I know). He's definitely not rock and roll, but something else closer to European art-pop. I think he was brilliant, especially those late '60s records but not limited to that, either. His best records make a lot of others seem kind of stupid if you want my honest opinion. I've listened to 3 of the 1st 4 albums this week and am gonna play the rest of his catalog. I only have Scott 3 on vinyl.
How's the Jenny Lewis? I liked The Voyager, but don't ever think she'll make anything as brilliant as Rabbit Fur Coat again. I hope to be wrong in this case, though.

Another thing re: Scott. He took a LONG time for me to really get into and my first exposure was the Boy Child compilation at some point in the early '00s.
And the first song on Scott 4 is "The Old Man's Back Again," my favorite by him and one I have sort of a personal connection to (long story that involves my dad being in Prague in 1968), so that helps as well.

I know many people who I typically agree with who love Scott Walker. And I like (some) orchestral pop music. But I think his lyrics are terribly affected and his voice is the definition of lugubrious.
The Lewis is okay. I give her credit for making what sounds like a big budget pop record that doesn't try too hard to sound contemporary (there are actual drums on most of the songs!) But the ballads all sound the same.

I've tried many times in the past, tough guy. Velvet Crush covered "Duchess" on Soft Sounds (2003). And the first song on Scott 4 is "The Seventh Seal", which seems to just reiterate the plot of the Bergman movie.

I think he's much closer to a classic crooner, but yet utterly unique/recognizable. I think he was the template for Bowie vocally at least from Station to Station onwards when his voice got way deeper. His influence on Bowie has been well-documented. Lugubrious doesn't bother me at all.
Hmm, I'll have to see if I agree with you on the Jenny Lewis. More Adventurous and Rabbit Fur Coat are huge career peaks for her IMO and nothing before or since has hit the same level for me.

Neko Case did "Duchess," too, and quite well on her first album The Virginian.
I got the song order mixed up on Scott 4; my bad. It's the 8th song, oops.

Speaking of affected and lugubrious, I'm not a huge Bowie fan either. When I think about the Bowie songs I like, it always come down to who he was in love with at the time - VU/Lou Reed, Stooges, etc. And most of them involve Mick Ronson.

Speaks volumes; I have a sorta half-baked but I think logical theory that folks like you and Nick who prefer the glam era just like straight-up rock and roll best and those of us who love both that period and the stuff from Station to Station to Scary Monsters are also post-punk fans (which I am and I know you're not). I love the Ronson era, too, but the '75-'80 era is WAY more interesting to me and I play the albums from that era more often with the exception of Hunky Dory and Ziggy, both in my top 5 Bowie Lps but the others are all from that other era. Low is my favorite, especially side 2.

Seriously? I love side 1. Side 2 isn’t bad or anything, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the Krautrock bands he was inspired by.

Low is my favorite Bowie album through and through as a continuous piece of music, even though it doesn't have any of my favorite Bowie songs.
Its quite odd that happened. Favorite album. But contains ZERO fave songs. And though I beg to differ with Hunter's questionable taste in most things in music, he does get Krautrock right. He should thank me. I discovered it.

Serious as a heart attack. I used to feel the same way for many years (and I still love side 1, of course) really until about 4-5 years ago, probably. Then side 2 just really hit me and yeah I know that whole era and particularly that ambient side is inspired by not just German stuff like Cluster, but by Eno (who worked on it and was inspired by them and worked with Cluster, too), but there's something about it that really hits me hard. I love all of that stuff, too, though. Side 2 of Before and After Science has a similarly high place in my personal pantheon.

More than 5, combination of (mostly) Spotify, YouTube and vinyl from yesterday and I think one from Wednesday:
La Sera - Music for Listening to Music To (so incredibly good; miles beyond most stuff coming out today and in retrospect very much a "getting sober" type album kind of like Wilco's Sky Blue Sky) Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson - Bridges Os Mutantes - Everything is Possible! (World Psychedelic Classics Volume 1) Shuggie Otis - Inspiration Information (Luaka Bop version with bonus tracks from Freedom Flight; it's another World Psychedelic Classics series; I don't have this CD anymore, but I have a nice Scorpio vinyl reissue that duplicates the CBS original; love this album so much) Rolling Stones - Between the Buttons (US version) Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger (first 4 songs rule everything)
Probably other stuff I'm forgetting, too.

No clue. Does it sound like Teenage Fanclub? Cuz these guys sound a LOT like Teenage Fanclub. It's also a perfectly generic power-pop name, like a cross between SUPERCHUNK and VELVET CRUSH. In fact, I'm starting to wonder why I never started a band called SUPERCRUSH.

I would've loved to see that. They did a new EP and that's it, I think. I forgot that they played those shows. Yeah that song is also on Core (which I listened to last week); absolutely incredible compilation that works really well as an album.
