Ask me in Dec when I buy another.

I have one guitar and one Bass VI (that I need to sell so I can actually buy an amp). I don’t believe I’ve ever owned more than two guitars at once, and I’ve owned two amps more frequently than I’ve owned two guitars.

Most I ever had was 2. (2 Gibson Les Paul Studios) But this year I said, 'fuck it, and bought a whopping 5 new guitars.

My nephew "borrowed" my LAG guitar that Mike D (who occasionally posts here) sold me.
I don't have the heart to ask my nephew to give it back, even though Mike customized it to the max for me.
NO ONE tweaks a guitar like Mike. (Well, maybe Gary Bennett (Kill Your Idols, Sheer Terror, Black Anvil, Serpico....etc..)

So...I bought a 'few' new ones this year.

I now have so many guitars and amps that when I do a gig, probably the thing that takes the most time is deciding which ones to use. I'll seriously go back and forth all day thinking about it. Congrats on the new hobby. There are worse things to be spending money on. The 10 different color variants of the 25th anniversary remastered box set with bonus tracks for the 8th time limited edition of Pleased To Meet Me, for instance.

That’s some nice guitars. Who’s going to play them?

Hey now. Those new deluxe editions include a full 12" of snippets of ideas that almost made the cut for being a pre-demo outtake. Remastered directly from the rehearsal tapes.

You can take the hang tags off now. :D

I have 3 guitars and 4 basses now and this is enough.

Wow your really went for it. Way to go. Nice selection. What are the double cutaways? The headstocks got cutoff.

I'm working on a guitar makeover right now. I had a friend do some stain work for me. I'm in the process of making hardware selections now. It's a bitch to try and find gold hardware that matches online.

Both Ibanez. The hollowbody sounds GREAT and it is light. The red one had perfect action.

You sure took an interesting path on your way to finally landing that Fender.

Meanwhile I've only bought one guitar this year. What a slacker.

Is that a newer one? A couple luthiers in the area bought the name several years ago with intentions to reissue. I know they had it going for a year or two, but I don’t know the current status.

No this is an older one, 1978. They made a series of 5 of these MPC models. These have effects modules that fit into the back of the guitar. I own 2 - X310's, 1 - X320, 1 - X330, 1 -X340 (That's the one in the pic and no Midge sorry you can't have it). All are 1978-79 models. X340's are pretty hard to find and so is the X350 which is still on my wish list. Electra came out with 12 effects modules, I currently have 9 of the 12.

But yes the Florida guys did have one or two runs of new Electra guitars and basses several years back. Their website is still active, however, all guitars are "sold out". It's been that way for quite awhile. Occasionally they will list some "new" old stock on Reverb. I've got my eye out for a white Omega model.

The effects modules gimmick was quite cool. I remember in a conversation with the current owners my friend suggested they come up with something similar in the current models, but usb/digital/smartphone based. They were only interested in doing the straight guitars, though.

This thread has inspired me to get a set-up for my Schecter PT. It has some noisy pots that need to be cleaned.
It also inspired me to check out our prior guitar thread where xxxMidgexxx had the following to say:

Dear everyone,

I don't NEED to have 100 + guitars in my collection. After all, guitars and records are just extensions of your penis.

And I am secure enough in my sexuality where I just need 1 good piece with excellent action.

So enough already.

I do believe that 5 is not equal to 100.

In SQL coding language; 5 <> 100

Turns up the volume on his pre-recorded bass track that makes it sound like he's actually playing.

Save the pic as a .jpg or some other file type associated with pics and upload it to imgur.com and then from there, you can link it to message boards like this one. That's how I do it and I only figured that out in the last year or so, I think.

It controls the blend of the two pick-ups (which is far more nuance than my bass playing requires).

I'm in a quandry.

I have an anti-materialistic weltanschauung going for life in general, and towards guitars in specific. I have five guitars that have been in the quiver forever, are suitable, and comprise "all I need".

But last month, I spotted a M-series Steinberger guitar for sale local to me that is basically a duplicate of one of my mains. These things rarely come up for sale, much less in great shape at a good price. (It's 20 years old, but like new, inherently affordable, and right down the street from me!) I'm torn: part of me wants to buy it simply because "when are you ever going to find one of those again, in that condition, at a great price?" It's a great find & deal, but the purchase would be straight-up hoarder tendency in action, not based in need.

I mean, my absolute favorite guitar is a Guild M75GS Bluesbird, 1970. I haven't seen one under $2500 that's the same as mine, and in better shape than mine. If I see one, I guess I'll buy it just because I'm never going to find one like that again. (Ironically, exactly what I have came up available on eBay, but in crappy condition though: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334052239859 )

But as a "bought things don't make you happy" philosophy person, I don't want to just hoard stuff that I already have. Barring a house fire, I probably won't lose the one I have.

Buy or not buy?

Arg.

Buy. 1 backup of your main is totally justifiable. Especially if it’s something you can’t just run out to the store and get on a whim.

Midge - Is your Ibanez AM53 the newer model? Looks like the newest model has a more square headstock, I prefer the older rounded version.

Yes. Brand new and a more square headstock. I like the pick ups plenty. There are some tones I can get like Alex Lifeson.
