|
|
| Well, tomorrow before the GI show, I was going to stop by Dischord house and take four photos of me in basically the same poses as the Salad Day cover and then photoshop it together and do something funny with it, but since I'm polite I sent an email over to Dischord mailorder (who work just across the street) asking if it was okay and they just emailed me that said they have "tenants" in the house and there is no way I could stand on the porch for 3m and take four photos. I wasn't quite expecting that since I've seen photos online of others doing the same thing, I prolly should have not asked. Guess I'll have to take a photo from the street and get all paparazzi. |

Come up to Glover Park and get pictures with Ian's dad at 3819 Beecher Street instead. _________________ It's not coming back, so let it go |

Get someone to go with you and take the pictures in quick succession. I'm interested to see how it looks when it's done. _________________

it's taking a few photos on a porch. you're not inviting yourself over for dinner. people need to lighten up a bit and focus on 'real' issues.
if you want to come take 4 photos on my porch, you're more than welcome. _________________ |

come on, if i'm a landlord, there's NO WAY i'm going to give some stranger
approval to go onto my property when it's under a rent contract (this sounds legal, right?).
and if i were a tenant, and my landlord did this, i'd be super pissed.
that said, the photo sounds like a fun idea. |

When my friends & I drove down to Dischord House in '93 to grab In on the Kill Taker we asked Ian for directions and he sent us in a very roundabout way until he believed us that we actually were coming and not just trying to get the real address of Dischord. We drove around for an extra two hours before we pulled up. This is why I always thought Arlington was an hour away from DC.
Besides the new Fugazi album I also walked out with a first pressing of Still Screaming _________________ "I'm waiting for my man. Twenty-six dollars in my hand...." |

| Well, of course, I was kidding about just doing it anyway. I don't totally understand why it would really matter (she told me to ask next time I'm in town, but besides flying out of IAD, I'm there once every 5 years) but I'd never just march into someone's yard, I don't care if it's against the law or not, it's just rude. But.....I am going to take a photo on the curb outside the house with the same four poses, but it won't be the same. I like the idea about the steak in the mailbox, those German's are clever when it comes to meat gifts. Maybe I'll get a hotdog at the 7-11 across the street and put it in there? Yes, I'm joking before people comment on that. |

I love the old dominion....BUT if you are trying to go to "the Dischord House" and you are on Glebe, then you better make a few turns first before trying to find the infamous house, otherwise, you are already lost! _________________ Some hae meat and canna eat,

So, I leaned over the gate but did not enter the yard and here it is:
I did take photos of me in the poses on the curb, but it they turned out super fucking cheesy so I doubt I'm gonna photoshop it.
I heard later that Tomas Squip is one of the people that now lives there (and he works at Dulles also?) so, after paying to see Fidelty Jones play, I think I owe him about 30m worth of annoyance, so it would have been only fair if I had bothered him greatly. Oh well. I'll do it when Dag Nasty plays their reunion show! |

Ok. If this guy can do this
http://www.roomzaar.com/rate-my-space/Yards/MASH-set-backyard/detail.esi?oid=510140
Once I get a single family house (as opposed to the small condo we're in now), I'll build an exact replica of that porch and you can come over and take all the pictures you want. Deal?
I know it isn't the same, but only you and I will know. Shhhh. _________________ Nowadays 80% of women are against

I took some friends from Belgium by there and Ian happened to be walking from the office to the house. He was very cool about it and brought out the original skateboard and let us take pics. Needless to say, the young Belgie guys were stoked.

I'm was sorta kidding. Every order I've made recently she has always put in a hand-written note and been very nice. Just sorta funny those dudes used Ian as a novelty prop and he was fine with it! I still intend to redo the insert photos and I can do that in the comfort of my own home. |

Quite a few years ago, I read an interview with Ian where he commented that when Jeff Nelson got married, Ian, Brian, Lyle, and Jeff recreated the 'Salad Days' cover photo since they were all in town for the wedding. I believe this was while Brian was still in Junkyard. The interviewer asked if that photo would ever see the light of day, and Ian said "no", that is was just for them. Now that would be interesting to see. _________________ "It is against my programming to impersonate a deity." |

I heard that the glare from the flash thanks to BB's leather & latex tuxedo (with matching leopard cowboy hat and boots) made the photo unviewable. |

Would actually call it 'playing along'. He actually was coming out of the office and walking to the house. He knew why we were there and said 'Hold on, let me go get the board...oh, and the fake leg is laying under that bush still'. He was being cool about it which is the opposite of what you would expect given his reputation. Dumb punk tourists? I'm sure you're not referring to me & my friends. |

I'm not calling you guys dumb, just saying that might be Ian's point of view (not of you guys in particular, just people in general), since I'm sure that this has happened on a regular basis for the last 25 years. He doesn't seem like a super-patient guy, and I'm sure it got old for him a long time ago. He must have been in a good mood that day. Every time I've seen him, he's seemed pretty surly. _________________ It's not coming back, so let it go |

Well, the 3 times I've run into him lately, he was somewhat outgoing and nice. Having a kid probably has changed him a little. He's still no 'Mr. Sunshine' but I'm glad he isn't. In talking with him Saturday night, he was cool despite what the pics show.
Yeah, he is used to people randomly showing up and he doesn't care. He was the one who offered to go inside and get the skateboard. Does that seem like someone who was annoyed? Nah |

(most of you have heard these stories already from me and I am not trying to drop names or anything but I thought it fitting to add this to this thread in defense of Ian.)
I have had the fortune to meet and hang out with Ian 2 times in my life. He was amazing and super cool and nice and all that good stuff, both times. And he is a total ham too.
When Fugazi came through Ventura in 98 the band came to my house and had dinner with me and my family (I lived with my brothers). We took a picture together. I am the dork in the Good Riddance hockey jersey.
then Ian said "wait lets take one more" so we did and this was the product...
Then when he did his spoken word "talk" thing in Ventura about 2 years ago and I asked if I could get a pic with him..he demanded that HE hold the camera and take the photo...this is what we got.
